Candle Care

The Art of Mindful Candle Care

At Copensense, we believe that candle care is an extension of the mindful living we hope to inspire. A little care goes a long way in nurturing your candle, ensuring it burns beautifully and fills your space with a sense of quiet calm. Our handmade candles are crafted with pure, natural rapeseed wax, and understanding their simple needs is the key to unlocking their full story.

The First Burn: A Lasting Impression

Think of the first time you light your candle as a foundation for all the moments of stillness to follow. We call this the "memory burn." Your candle's first burn should last long enough for the entire top layer of wax to melt evenly to the edges of the jar. This creates a full wax pool and ensures that every subsequent burn will follow its lead, preventing the dreaded "tunneling" effect. It's a small, intentional act that makes a big difference in your candle's lifespan. If your candle has already begun to tunnel, you can gently let it burn for 3-4 hours to allow the wax to melt to the edges, resetting its burn memory.

The Simple Act of Wick Trimming

Before you light your candle every time, we recommend taking a moment to trim the wick to 5mm. Be careful not to trim the wick shorter than 5mm, as this can lead to a small flame and cause the wax to tunnel. An untrimmed wick can cause the flame to grow too large, creating smoke and soot that can blacken the vessel. A trimmed wick, on the other hand, creates a clean, steady flame that burns efficiently, allowing the fragrance to shine and keeping your moments of calm peaceful and pure. If you notice the flame is higher than normal and producing visible soot, you can simply extinguish the candle, trim the wick, and then re-light it to be enjoyed.

The Natural Beauty of Wax

Our candles are made with 100% natural rapeseed wax, free from any additives. This purity is part of what makes them so special. As a result, you might notice that the surface of the wax becomes slightly rough after burning and cooling. This is simply the natural character of the wax itself—a unique signature of its authenticity, and a beautiful reminder that handmade isn't always machine-perfect.

Safe & Still Moments

We want your experience to be as safe as it is serene. Here are a few simple guidelines to follow every time you light your candle:

  • Always place your candle on a heat-resistant surface, away from drafts and anything flammable.

  • Keep the candle away from children and pets.

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.

  • Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.

  • Stop using your candle when only 10mm of wax remains.

  • Please note: The vessel may become hot while the candle is burning. Always handle with caution.

By following these simple steps, you're not just caring for a candle; you're nurturing a space for stillness. We hope you enjoy every quiet moment.
